AFTER SCHOOL IN THE TEACHERS LOUNGE (OVA(1994)

(this review was originally posted on tumblr on november 6h at 2:17 am, this is a copy-paste of the original review, as my opinion has not changed)

Dear god, this one is a doozy. Buckle up, fujos, this one is a terrible time.

I’m not linking to this one, because I genuinely despise it.

The summary on myreadingmanga.info goes like this;

A romance between two high school teachers—Mitsuro Kawase and Toshiaki Kazama—is complicated by Mitsuro’s hesitation to accept Toshiaki’s very open declaration of love, and is slightly complicated by a bit of jealousy on the part of Mitsuro’s younger brother Hitoshi.

Lets start with the good;

  • Kawase, while bog-standard for an uke, wasnt completely one-note and had some interesting characteristics of his own.
  • The ending songs were pretty good.
  • The art got marginally better on the second episode.
  • ...

  • wait. wait, that's it?

  • Now, the bad;

  • Literally everything else.
  • Kazama, in particular.
  • Kazama is the biggest douchebag I’ve ever experienced in a piece of fiction. He had no respect for Kawase, but he expects Kawase to listen to him to a fault, without having any thoughts of his own. When Kawase says that he wants to end the relationship, Kazama, the fucking crazy person, threatens to KILL him and then HIMSELF. Who the hell does that?! Who the hell does that?! He’s a controlling bastard and I despise him.

    In typical mid-90s yaoi fashion, Kawase ends up staying with Kazama, and this extremely toxic behavior is never fucking acknowledged. it isn't even an interesting type of toxicity, it's just *disturbing.*

    I do not recommend this ova. I wish i never watched it.

    FINAL RATING:

    0/5.

    Fuck this thing.
